PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
Equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards.
Definition
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) refers to protective clothing, helmets, goggles, respirators, gloves, and other gear worn to minimize exposure to hazards. In restoration, appropriate PPE varies based on the hazard: mold remediation requires N95 or P100 respirators, Tyvek suits, and gloves; sewage cleanup requires waterproof protection; and asbestos work requires specific respirators and disposable coveralls. OSHA regulations mandate appropriate PPE for various restoration activities.
