Mold Spores
Microscopic reproductive units released by mold fungi.
Back to Glossary
Definition
Mold spores are microscopic reproductive units that allow mold to spread and colonize new areas. Spores are present virtually everywhere in indoor and outdoor air. When spores land on a moist surface with organic material, they can germinate and grow into new mold colonies. During mold remediation, controlling spore spread is critical through containment barriers and HEPA air filtration. Air quality testing measures spore counts to determine if remediation was successful.
