Definition
Mold is a type of fungus that grows in multicellular filaments called hyphae and reproduces by releasing microscopic spores into the air. Mold requires moisture, organic material, and suitable temperatures to grow. In buildings, mold commonly grows on damp materials like drywall, wood, carpet, and insulation. Common indoor molds include Aspergillus, Penicillium, Cladosporium, and Stachybotrys (black mold). Mold exposure can cause allergic reactions, respiratory issues, and other health problems.
