Antimicrobial Treatment
Application of agents that kill or inhibit microorganism growth.
Definition
Antimicrobial treatment involves applying EPA-registered products that kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi (including mold), and other microorganisms. In restoration, antimicrobial treatments are used after water damage to prevent mold growth, during mold remediation to treat affected areas, and after sewage backups to sanitize contaminated surfaces. Products may include quaternary ammonium compounds, hydrogen peroxide solutions, or other biocides. Proper application following manufacturer guidelines is essential.
